Read MoreYou should have full control over your data. We help you achieve that: a safe home for all your data. Secure, under your control and developed in an open, transparent and trustworthy way. We are Nextcloud.
Started by well known open source file sync and share project founder Frank Karlitschek and joined by the most active contributors, building on its mature code base, we offer a more reliable and sustainable solution for users and customers. Nextcloud kicks off today and we will continue to develop the project over the coming weeks. We will provide the bug fixes and security hardening all users need and the Enterprise Subscription capabilities enterprise customers require!
If you are an existing user or customer or are looking to deploy we have your back. Nextcloud will uncompromisingly focus on providing the best possible experience to all its users, customers and contributors. To ensure a smooth transition, we will honor all the contracts customers have signed to get support over the last years until today. Your support does not go away: Nextcloud will be there for you.
Over the coming days and weeks we will come with more information about our offering but you can already contact us for questions about your support contract or a new installation. See our enterprise page for more information.
An Open Source business model depends on a carefully balanced equilibrium between the needs of a business and its customers, users and contributing community. Nextcloud is a reboot of the company and project, a new way of re-defining the balance into a more sustainable, open ecosystem with a single focus: putting users in control of their data. Kickstarted as a healthy, growing company, Nextcloud reduces barriers to contribution and increases transparency to enable more input of customers and users.
On top of the file sync and share you all know and love, Nextcloud will provide full Spreed.ME support. Spreed.ME is a next generation, open source WebRTC based communication platform with video conferencing and text chat. We will also provide support for the popular Calendar and Contacts apps and improve and enrich the user experience in many other areas.
New energy and greater ambitions for the future: Nextcloud is the next generation of on-premise cloud technology! We will release more information about our plans the coming hours and days in our blogs.

One thing I would love to see more focus on would be better upgrade handling. Frequent *cloud updates are good, but they are often fragile, leading to a lot of frustration.
Other than that: Looking forward to what will come from this 🙂

Very much looking forward to NextCloud and its real commitment to open source software. I for one will be using it for my clients.
Sounds awesome – I’m looking forward to the builds seeing how this plays out!

Looking forward to NextCloud and hope the updating process can be improved so that things don’t break with every upgrade. In addition to Calendar & Contacts it would be great if an email server could be incorporated with multiple email accounts, imap, and pop3 capabilities. This would make the offering fully complete and unbeatable. Also need clients on Linux, ios, and Android. Others of course will want Windows & Mac clients. Good Luck and look forward with anticipation.
Our business has used owncloud from the start and has been active on forums. We were excited to provide direct feedback from the end user inorder to improve the product/software as a whole. We were unfortunately disappointed with the response from owncloud when we gave the markets feedback. “Dont shoot the messenger”, didn’t really sync in. Basically if next cloud is to differentiate themselves i hope they are more open to listening to the markets requirements. As an example you will find literally 100’s of requests for large files to sync incrementally between the server & desktop client app. Currently a 5gig file once changed by the user will restart sync from the beginning. This is absolutely ridiculous and blocks up bandwidth & wastes user data. I hope that next cloud addresses this issue and isnt put on the “slow feature” list as owncloud has for years.
We sure will listen more. But an open process requires more than talking – doing is what makes things happen. So either people have to pay or contribute code to make changes happen. Until now, customers didn’t want to pay for this feature, they rarely sync such big files. And volunteers haven’t done it as it is very complicated and a lot of work.
If you know a solution for this, please, let me know – I would also love this feature but I can neither pay for it nor do it myself…
