Welcome to 2019! There are new updates to your favorite cloud productivity software and we recommend you update as soon as you can!
Nextcloud 13.0.10, 14.0.6 and 15.0.2 contain important improvements to improve the reliability and security; as always, the updates should be safe and quick.
Remember, you don’t control your data if it isn’t secure! Enterprises with a Subscription can rely on the stand-by upgrade support from Nextcloud GmbH if needed.
Note: we roll out updates incrementally, so most servers on 14.0.x don’t get a notification for Nextcloud 15 yet. Either be patient (we hope to go to ~50% this week) or switch to the beta channel and reload the page to get the 15.0.2 notification right now. Don’t forget to switch back to the stable channel after updating!
What’s new
We’ll coalesce the change log of two minor releases, as 13.0.10, 14.0.6 and 15.0.2 were small updates to the previous updates thanks to some last minute fixes we decided should be shipped as soon as possible to users. This includes security-relevant hardenings and fixes, so upgrade now!
The most notable changes:
Calendar/Contacts fixes that improve the cancel-event messages, vcard handling and, activity support and reliability of the calendar
LDAP and SAML improvements: LDAP mapping fix, SAML login flow on Apple devices fix, LDAP user deletion date now recorded
A series of IE fixes repair check boxes, apps menu and icons
Security-relevant changes now allow fonts to be provided in data and improve Proxy handling as well as better password reset handling when using encrypted storage
File-drop no longer breaks on certain special characters
Note that Nextcloud 12 is no longer receiving security and stability updates. If you really need to stay with Nextcloud 12 for some more time, we strongly recommend contacting Nextcloud GmbH for Long Term Support.
Time to upgrade to 14!
If you are still in Nextcloud 13, it is time to update. The majority of our user base has already moved to Nextcloud 14 or 15 and we will move Nextcloud to our customer-only Long Term Support service for further security and stability updates.
Stay safe: keep your server up-to-date!
Minor Nextcloud releases are security and functionality bug fixes, not rewrites of major systems that risk user data! We also do extensive testing, both in our code base and by upgrading a series of real-world systems to the test versions. This ensures that upgrades to minor releases are painless and reliable. As the updates not only fix feature issues but also security problems, it is a bad idea to not upgrade!
This is also true for apps: keeping them updated has security benefits, besides the new features and other bug fixes.
If you are maintaining a mission-critical Nextcloud system for your enterprise, it is highly recommended that you get yourself some insurance (and job security… who gets blamed if the collaboration platform isn’t working as expected?). A hotline to the core Nextcloud developers is the best guarantee for reliable service for your users.
