It’s already been over a month since FOSDEM, which means the videos are online and memories start fading. So let’s quickly recap the event before we forget what fun it was!
Like the last few years, the Nextcloud crew participated in Europe’s largest open source developer event, joining the over 10.000 other techies who listen to and give talks, workshops and hang out at the many project booths. Like last year, we invited our friends from DAVx5 to join our booth and this year, we had also invited ONLYOFFICE to their first FOSDEM experience! We had no less than two tables between the three of us, which was a great luck as we definitely needed it during the busier moments of the conference.
It was a great event, as hopefully the enthusiastic people on the team group picture shows! Sadly one member couldn’t make it to the pic but we’re grateful nonetheless to everybody who joined us. If you’re interested in joining the crew next year, keep an eye on our blog and the forums – we always ask for voluneers around December!
Of course, besides the volunteers, literally thousands of visitors walked by our booth and talked to us. We handed out nearly 10.000 Nextcloud stickers (!!!) and our DAVx5 and ONLYOFFICE friends added their own to that. We talked to interesting people, demonstrating Nextcloud or answering questions. It was a delight to have a chance to talk to so many and we want to thank everyone who came by our booth!
Talks
Besides talking to us at our booth, we also presented a few sessions at FOSDEM and the videos are online for your retroactive viewing pleasure!
Always wondered why Nextcloud has integrated Talk? It is all about context, and Björn Schießle is happy to provide this to you! Watch his FOSDEM talk here or below.
Besides this great talk by Björn, those interested in the other apps you can find in the Nextcloud ecosystem were wise to join the talk by Jos Poortvliet on a dozen more thinks you didn’t know Nextcloud could do. As Nextcloud Hub was just released, much of the talk was about the release and all it has to offer.
Last but not least, Nextcloud founder Frank Karlitschek gave a talk in the big room covering his thoughts on the recent licensing debate in the open source community and what makes the GPL a great business license.
“When we have welcoming communities of contributors, open source software gets better and more useful to everyone.” Limor Fried, Electrical Engineer, Inventor and Founder of open-source hardware company Adafruit We believe in this ideal and love to work with our community. We are always looking to involve more people in Nextcloud, bringing in their ideas, […]
When cables are cut, sanctions are put in place or privacy legislation prohibits the use of the service your entire organization depends on, what can you do? Amidst geo-political changes, organizations face dependencies on large, centralized communication platforms. A major example of this is the SaaS-only communication platform Microsoft Teams. It is the only solution […]
